Why is music enjoyable?

This is why I teach music (anonymous)

Not because I expect you to major in music
Not because I expect you to sing or play all your life
Not so you can relax
Not so you can have fun.

But, so you will be more human
So you will recognize beauty
So you will be sensitive
So you will be closer to an infinite beyond this world
So you will have something to cling to
So you will have more love, compassion, gentleness
- in short, more life.

Fellow musicians, teachers, friends-- why do you enjoy music?

Pretend play fosters creativity

The July 10th issue of Newsweek affirms what Kindermusik educators already know - pretend play fosters life-long creativity. By encouraging creative behavior often throughout childhood and adulthood, neurological patterns change in the brain to make problem-solving faster and better.

Updated Kindermusik with Christine Erickson website!

Today I updated the Kindermusik with Christine Erickson website for the fall 2010 semester. I will be offering classes for children 18 months to 7 years!

I'm excited to announce that Kindermusik with Christine Erickson will be offering classes at Giggles and Grins Learning Center in Kirksville, MO this fall! I will be offering classes on Friday evenings and Saturday mornings. Classes will be available for children ages 6 months to 7 years.
